Tony Bennett

August 3, 1926

Tony Bennett once said that he knew he made the grade (especially with his parents) when on the radio they heard a Frank Sinatra interview and they had asked Sinatra who he listens to when he wants to hear good music and Sinatra replied "Tony Bennett is the best singer in the business".  This not only gave Bennett a great deal of satisfaction, but it also legitimized what Tony does for a living in his parent's eyes.

Born in Queens, (Astoria), New York City, Anthony Dominick Benedetto is still performing even though he recently celebrated his 75th Birthday.  He is most famous for the song "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" but has also recorded other favorites, even Sinatra's such as "The Way You Look Tonight", "Autumn Leaves" and numerous others.  He currently has a Blues CD available where he does a number of duets with other artists called "Playin' With My Friends".

Bennett got his big break in 1949 when Bob Hope noticed him working with Pearl Bailey in New York City's Greenwich Village.
