Anna Maria Pierangeli
(Pier Angeli)
June 19, 1932 - - - September 10,
1971
Anna Maria Pierangeli was born on June 19, 1932 in Sardina, Italy. Maria
Pavan was her twin sister, they both had their eyes on film since that was
one of the big Italian pastimes at that time. Anna adopted her surname and
became Pier Angeli. Her first role would be an uncredited part in 1948's
The Million Dollar Nickel, an Italian production.
Pier had very much been in love with James Dean, but her mother worked hard
to separate them because James Dean was not Catholic. Instead her mother
had chosen Vic Damone as a husband for Pier. They were married in
1954, Angeli and Damone had one son together during that 4-year marriage.
Pier divorced her second husband, Armando Trovajoli, in 1969 and made her
final appearance on the silver screen in 1971 in a film called
Octaman. On September 10 of that same year, Pier was found dead of
a drug overdose (barbiturates) in her Beverly Hills home at the age of 39.
Before she died, it is said that she wrote that James Dean was the
only man she ever really loved.
