Alan Alda
(Alphonso D'Abruzzo, Jr.)
January 28, 1936
Born in New York, NY this actor commuted from
his home and family in New Jersey to LA when he was starring in his famous
role as "Hawkeye Pierce" on one of the most successful television sitcoms
of all time, M*A*S*H. He did not know how long the job would last,
he really did not have much faith in it, so he did not want to uproot his
family and move them to LA. Oddly enough, he almost turned the role
down and did not agree to do the show until just hours before the filming
of the show's pilot. The son of Joan Brown, a former Miss New York
pageant winner and Robert Alda, a vaudville performer. Alan suffered
from a bad case of Polio as a child, but had overcome it, and studied at
Fordham University in New York. He is the only person ever to win an
Emmy for acting, writing, and directing. He still lives in New Jersey
(a mansion on the Jersey shore I hear) and is still married to the woman
he met while in the Army. Together they have 3 daughters. In
his spare time, he is a strong advocate for the Equal Rights Amendment.
